ISANSYS LIFECARE TO SHOWCASE NEW WIRELESS TECHNOLOGIES WHICH ADDRESS PATIENT SAFETY ISSUES AND THE NEEDS OF THE NHS
Isansys Lifecare, the provider of complete real-time physiological patient data services and systems, is exhibiting at Patient First, a conference focused on improving patient safety for those operating within the NHS and independent healthcare sectors.
Patient First is the UK’s largest patient safety conference and exhibition and it brings together medical directors and doctors, directors of nursing and nurses, as well as senior operational staff and other health care professionals. It’s expected to attract around 2,600 attendees who want to learn from expert speakers, meet exhibitors and network.
Isansys Lifecare’s representatives will be available on the 12th and 13th November to talk to delegates about the ground-breaking and practical work it is doing within the NHS and with other healthcare organisations to address critical patient safety issues and enable improved patient monitoring and alerting both in hospital and at home.
Isansys has created the Patient Status Engine (PSE), a new generation digital medical device to help clinical teams take action to reduce the 1.2 million adverse events and 12,000 in-hospital avoidable deaths reported in 2014. The PSE is a scalable, low-cost, continuous vital sign data acquisition, analysis and prediction platform incorporating unobtrusive wireless wearable sensors, predictive algorithms and other analytical tools. The PSE observes and records every heartbeat, every breath, continuous oxygen saturation, temperature every minute and blood pressure as required and automatically uploads this data to a patient database. Real-time or off-line analysis of this data provides new early warning scoring methods and offers new insights that allow care pathways to be tailored to the needs of individual patients.
Isansys is currently working with a number of hospitals in the NHS and other healthcare organisations to deliver patient monitoring services and solutions using the PSE and new generation vital signs monitors. This includes a ground-breaking project at a large NHS hospital in England.
The project, the first of its type in the world, is using biotelemetry and wireless sensors designed by Isansys to collect real-time data on vital signs such as heart rate, breathing rate and oxygen levels. This data is then analysed to predict when a patient’s condition may be deteriorating, providing an early warning system with the potential to save thousands of lives.

These technologies can also help reduce the costs associated with avoidable patient deterioration, medical errors, readmissions to intensive care wards and admissions (and readmissions) to hospital. In the future they will also play a major role in engaging patients in their own care.
